HENDERSON, Ky (WEHT) - A species of invasive fish has been found dead along shorelines in Hancock County.

The Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources state invasive carp were found dead along the shores or floating on shore within the Cannelton Pool on the Ohio River.

Officials state the fish die off is most likely due to low dissolved oxygen from high water temperatures, sunny days and increased oxygen demand by many aquatic organisms.

Officials also state other possible causes include injury while passing through the spill gates at the various dams on the Ohio River or gas bubble disease.

Officials say invasive carp deaths are noticed around this time and have been for the past several years. Due to the size carp can get, it can be more obvious.
