A $10 million tourism development, complete with Ice Slides, an indoor putting range and butterfly emporium is proposed for the Canal District.

Property owner THC/SIS Group has applied for a three-year rebate of the municipal property tax increment program through the Economic Development Community Improvement Plan (CIP).

If council approves the application at Monday’s meeting, the Canal Drive development will receive a municipal tax increment rebate of $100,000 per year over a three-year term.

The rebate would be conditional on the project receiving Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation funding, prove that job creation targets identified in the application are met with at least 80 per cent of the proposed 50 jobs met, and the development shows evidence of meaningful partnerships w
