LYON COUNTY, Nev. (KOLO) - Lyon County Sheriff Brad Pope says his county is not a sanctuary county.

Pope’s comment comes in the wake of the DOJ naming the state of Nevada as one inhibiting federal immigration policy through sanctuary policies. That list did not clarify which counties or cities held such policies.

Pope says that during his tenure as Lyon County Sheriff, his office has always cooperated with the federal government and will continue to do so regardless of the current political whims.

Pope also took aim at the state’s model immigration policy.

Published by the Nevada Attorney General and mandated by the Nevada Legislature, the policies read:

“[LEA] will not perform or support the functions of a federal immigration agent or otherwise engage in immigration enforcement act
