MID-MICHIGAN – Several area conservation groups and municipalities are inviting the public to help restore the Saginaw River system’s lake sturgeon population.

Free riverside release events will take place on Aug. 22 at each of the Saginaw River system’s tributaries, which include the Cass, Flint, Shiawassee, and Tittabawassee rivers, according to a press release issued by Michigan State University Extension.

During the events, participants will release more than 100 juvenile sturgeon into each of the rivers. The sturgeon are from the Black River in Cheboygan County where they hatched through natural reproduction.
