Grand Erie Public Health officials are urging caution after a bat found in the Brantford, Brant County area tested positive for rabies, making it the second bat to test positive this summer.
In a statement released Friday, public health officials said an individual’s exposure to the virus is considered low risk because there wasn’t any contact with the bat.

In June, GEPH officials reported that a person was receiving treatmen t after exposure to a bat that tested positive for the rabies virus. The individual received the post exposure rabies prophylaxis, which includes rabies immune globulin and a series of rabies vaccine.
