Belleville-area citizens say Canada must take a stronger stance against the war in Gaza by helping to end the conflict and the starvation of its people.
At an evening vigil held Aug. 6 in the city’s Market Square, people from many walks of life said the plight of Palestinians there is chiefly a humanitarian crisis and warrants an immediate, humane response.

“There are children that are dying as we speak,” said Belleville’s Shahid Mahmood, founder of Belleville for Justice and Peace. Members of that grassroots group and the city’s Amnesty International chapter organized the solemn event.
