The Boston Red Sox appear to be gaining some extra intel on Toronto Blue Jays pitchers.
Catcher Ali Sanchez was claimed off waivers by the Red Sox from the Blue Jays on Friday, the teams announced.
Sanchez played eight games for the Blue Jays this season, filling in during various injury absences from major-league catching tandem Alejandro Kirk and Tyler Heineman.
The 28-year-old, who had a .238/.238/.333 slash line, was designated for assignment on Tuesday, with both of the other catchers cleared for action.
Now, he’ll head to the Red Sox, who trail the Blue Jays by four games for the AL East lead.
Sanchez also appeared in 54 games for the triple-A Buffalo Bisons this year, batting .279 with six home runs and 28 RBIs.
