When Zach Cregger’s brilliant solo directing debut Barbarian was still in theaters, a friend of mine sent me an article where the author recounted their experience seeing it. Apparently the small audience he saw it with walked out of the theater so stunned by what they’d just seen that this group of strangers began talking to each other about it as if they were longtime friends, with the discussion lasting a good amount of time.
I totally understood that reaction because I felt the same way after I saw Barbarian . I really needed to talk to someone about it, so I egged all of my horror-loving friends—and even some who aren’t big on horror, but love great filmic storytelling—to see it as soon as they could.
