One of the best ways to attract anyone, anywhere, is through good food.

And that’s exactly what Daniel Rios-Lopera is doing with Segundo Barrio Kitchen Stories.

The free event, which aims to preserve, promote and celebrate the heritage of El Paso's historic Segundo Barrio, is at 10 a.m. Aug. 16 at the Mexican American Cultural Center, 201 W. Franklin.

“I wanted to help tell some stories of the barrio through the food and some of the people cooking it,” said Daniel Rios-Lopera, a former creative writing instructor at EPCC who is beginning his tenure at UTEP this fall as a fulltime professor.

The four family-owned eateries that will be featured at Segundo Barrio Kitchen Stories are Jalisco Café, Nachitas Grocery, Eben-Ezer and El Segundo Bakery.
