Brantford councillor calls for provincial legislation to better protect small businesses
Provincial legislation is desperately needed to better protect business owners hard hit by break-ins, theft and vandalism, a Brantford city councillor says.
“We have a business owner who had a $45,000 air conditioner on the roof of his building,” Coun. Linda Hunt said in an interview. “It was thrown off the roof of the building onto the parking lot and stripped of the wire that was in it.”

The Ward 4 councillor said the impact goes well beyond the break-ins and thefts. The vandalism often causes a major disruption to the business and leads to increased insurance costs.
“A lot of the people most affected are small business owners,” Hunt said. “They’re the backbone of our economy
