SALT LAKE CITY — If you haven’t already, you might receive a note in the mail letting you know your property tax is set to increase, something Utahns across the state are seeing.

These tax increases, if they’re approved, will go into effect in the 2026 fiscal year, according to Billy Hesterman, the president of Utah Taxpayers Association.

Hesterman said school districts, counties and cities all pull their funding largely from property taxes, which is why there are usually year increases.

“There are a few less doing an increase this year than the year prior, and that the median rate is lower,” Hesterman said.

The median rate for the last fiscal year, spanning from July 1 to June 30, was 11.58%, according to Hesterman. This year, Hesterman said the median rate hike is 8.31%.
