Officials in Elgin County are asking people to call 911 if they see an open fire after announcing a sweeping burn ban due to extreme dry conditions Friday.
“Effective immediately, all open-air and recreational fires are prohibited anywhere in the city of St. Thomas, town of Aylmer and the townships and municipalities,” Elgin County fire chiefs said in a release.
The ban comes as the London region enters another hot, humid weekend. Temperatures are expected to reach as high as 33 C with the humidity making it feel more like 40 C on Saturday, Environment Canada said.
Some relief could come Tuesday when the forecast calls for a high of 28 C and a 40 per cent chance of showers.
