The Boston Licensing Board yesterday voted to let Tao's, 336 Newbury St. in the Back Bay, glow up its current lineup of Korean and Japanese cosmetics with shoju and Japanese whiskies.
The store plans to offer a selection of hard liquor from the two countries in the back of its shop, Jason Blackburn, who will manage the alcoholic curation, told the board at a hearing on Wednesday.
No seats - the place is not a restaurant - and employees will undergo training in recognizing signs of intoxication and the importance of ensuring no teeny boppers get their hands on the liquids, he said.
"It's quite unique," board Chairwoman Kathleen Joyce said. "I've never heard of this before."
