An Amtrak Pacific Surfliner train struck an automobile in Chinatown Friday, but no one was injured in the vehicle or aboard the train.

The crash was reported at 11:38 a.m. in the 1700 block of Main Street, near Wilhardt Street and the Los Angeles River, according to Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department, who said it was train number 774.

It was unclear why the vehicle was on the tracks.

A Los Angeles Police Department spokesman said the Central Traffic Division was in charge of the investigation.

Amtrak did not immediately respond to an email seeking details about the crash.
