A medical center focused on caring for elderly patients in San Jose held its grand opening on Friday.

The new North East Medical Services (NEMS) PACE Center on Story Road focuses on supporting elderly patients as an alternative to a retirement home.

The facility helps seniors with medical care while also helping them build community.

"Together, we strive not only to prevent or delay nursing home placement, but to ensure each participant can remain in the community they love, supported in aging with dignity and grace," Eddie Cho, president and CEO of NEMS said.

The San Jose location is the second facility of its kind, with the first being in San Francisco's Chinatown.
