CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- A Charlotte man will spend at least 16 years in prison after accepting a plea deal in a deadly hit-and-run that killed a 23-year-old young man.

Mache Ulysses Darby, who was facing multiple charges, including second-degree murder, pleaded guilty this week in connection with the crash that killed Ryan Zadrozny in Uptown.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said the hit-and-run happened around 2:10 a.m. on December 2, 2024, when Darby, driving a Mercedes-Benz, struck Zadrozny at speeds exceeding 100 mph before fleeing the scene. CMPD officers found Darby nearby, and he tried to flee again, leading to a second crash with parked vehicles.
