The Alberta Teachers' Association and the province are set to return to the bargaining table on Aug. 26

With the clock ticking down on a potential strike by Alberta teachers, the province’s collective bargaining group is taking steps toward a possible lockout vote at the end of the month.

The Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA) has applied to the Alberta Labour Relations Board to hold a lockout vote Aug. 29, the province confirmed Thursday.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Treasury Board and Finance said the move is a standard response following the Alberta Teachers’ Association’s strike vote earlier this year.

“This is a normal employer response to a strike vote, and it provides the employer the right to lock out employees, if necessary,” Marisa Bree
