SUNSET PARK — THE NEW YORK CITY FIRE DEPARTMENT’S EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES BATTALION 40 will get a new Command Car thanks to funds secured by City Councilmember Susan Zhuang, D-43, as part of Fiscal Year 2025-26. Zhuang on Thursday presented a $323,000 ceremonial check to the Battalion 40 leaders, at a community event which FDNY Fire Commissioner Robert Tucker, business leaders and other elected officials attended.
Accompanying Zhuang were the 49th Assembly District Leaders Tony Ko and Joyce Xie and Eighth Avenue business owners. Tucker visited some businesses, and the Zhuang spoke with EMS staff about their love for the job, though it comes with financial strain for many since $30,000 is the annual starting pay.
