A Blind River man was fined after not keeping his dogs on-leash in “critical wildlife habitats.”

Dustin Whyte pleaded guilty to allowing his dogs to run at large during the closed season for white-tailed deer in an area usually inhabited by that species.

Whyte also pleaded guilty to allowing his dogs to run at large in the same area during the open archery hunting season for white-tailed deer, where hunting with dogs is unlawful. Whyte was fined $1,500 and received a one-year probation order stipulating that he must ensure any dogs under his ownership or control do not leave his property unless leashed or tethered.
