GREENSBORO, N.C. — For more than 50 years, artist William Mangum has poured North Carolina’s landscapes—and its soul—onto canvas. But in 1995, he set down the brush an called in help tell that story. He called on a familiar voice.

“I knew that if I could do a book, it would help me expand my brand,” Mangum said. “So, the idea was to come alongside 3 different voices, 3 different personalities, TV personalities, and one of those was a good friend, Lee Kinard, who had me on the show many times.”

Kinard, the legendary broadcaster from WFMY News 2’s Good Morning Show , was more than just a voice—he was a champion of Mangum’s work, frequently inviting him to the studio to paint live on-air and even stopping by his gallery to help promote new art series.
