SPOKANE, Wash - A man arrested for murder and assault in downtown Spokane Thursday night has a history of assault and had a warrant out for his arrest.

Police say 20-year-old Colin L. Pedro attacked a man he'd been dating around 6:30 Thursday night, then stabbed a total stranger who was at the scene.

After the stabbing, Pedro walked to the Post Street Bridge and sat on a railing, threatening suicide.

The bystander, Anthony Espinoza, later died at the hospital, and the boyfriend suffered serious injuries.

Police locked down the area and blocked streets, finally bringing Pedro off the bridge and into custody around 10:15 p.m.

Pedro made his first appearance in court on Friday, where he was charged with murder and assault.

Espinoza's sister Zoe Gluckman urged him to change his ways.
