A close call on the final play of Thursday’s 11-on-11 period capped off an intense session during Auburn football’s fall camp.
Lined up at slot receiver, Eric Singleton Jr. was matched up with safety Sylvester Smith in the nickel position. Singleton quickly exploded off the line and, with a step on Smith, made an acrobatic attempt at the ball that was ruled incomplete by the field referees.
Smith’s late poke on the ball caused Singleton to bobble the pass as he was coming down with the reception. Even if Singleton gained possession of the ball, Smith forced him out of bounds making it an incomplete pass.
