KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A water main break in Prairie Village has forced a road closure and caused some serious damage on Friday, August 8.

According to the Prairie Village Police Department, a water main break at 79th Street and Mission Road happened at around 2:15 p.m. on Friday. Later that afternoon, police said the water main break "has caused serious damage to the roadway."

Currently, 79th Street remains closed; drivers should expect it to remain that way until next week, according to police. Additionally, north and southbound traffic will continue shortly on Mission Road.

Prairie Village PD said that repairs are currently underway.
