As more and more Beer Store locations across Ontario are set to close, the landscape of beer sales is rapidly changing.

In our region, the Iroquois Falls Beer Store will shut its doors permanently on Sunday, Aug. 10, while the South Porcupine location is set to close on Sunday, Sept. 28.

They are two of the 41 total closures across the province occurring in August and September, and by the end of next month, 90 locations will be have been closed since May of 2024.

It is a major shakeup, as the Ontario government, led by Premier Doug Ford, has been aiming to breakup what was once essentially a monopoly dating back to 1927, by allowing beer, wine, cider, and ready-to-drink cocktails to be sold in convenience stores and grocery stores.
