An article last month telling how some schools in Pennsylvania would experience a delay in receiving federal grant money reminded me of something which happened the day I was in a high school classroom assisting a special needs student.
The teacher was teaching a new type of math. One of the students said he didn’t understand it. The teacher said she didn’t either but the school was given grant money to teach it so she had to teach it.
Some grant money is given each year and if the recipients don’t use it, they don’t get it again the following year.
There should be more transparency on how and why a grant is given, how it was used, and was it really necessary. Taxpayers have a right to know.
