A nonprofit corporation based in Tennessee has given $1.1 million to the campaign of one of Alabama’s three Republican candidates for attorney general, sparking “dark money” accusations.

First Principles Action Inc., gave Katherine Robertson’s campaign a $1 million donation in July and followed that up with a $100,000 donation on Monday.

The $1.1 million makes up most of the $1.5 million Robertson’s campaign has received since fundraising for next year’s primary started in May.

Robertson is the chief counsel for Attorney General Steve Marshall, who has endorsed her to be his successor.

Former Alabama Supreme Court Justice Jay Mitchell and Blount County District Attorney Pamela Casey are the other contenders in the race to succeed Marshall.
