MINDEN, Nev. (KOLO) - The presence of bats has forced the closure of some properties within the Douglas County School District.

The school district says the infestation occurred at 1638 Mono Avenue in Minden.

The bats tested positive for rabies and for fungal spores that cause histoplasmosis, a respiratory infection. The district says that while the risk to the public remains low, exposure can pose serious health concerns.

The district says they have closed the district office, the dog park on County Road, and the playground and basketball court adjacent to the district office out of an abundance of caution.

People in the area are asked not to touch or handle bats, avoid disturbing areas with bat droppings, and keeps pets leashed and away from wildlife.
