COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - This weekend, a full moon will shine bright! It’s the 2025 Sturgeon Moon and special equipment isn’t needed to view it.

The Sturgeon Moon will reach peak illumination at approximately 3:54 AM ET Saturday. It’s called the Sturgeon Moon as August is traditionally known for being the best time to catch sturgeon fish.

While you don’t need special equipment, binoculars and a telescope will give you a better view.

Unfortunately, most of us in the Midlands may miss out due to persistent cloud cover. However, areas along and east of I-95 may be able to catch a glimpse.

Here’s a look at viewing conditions expected at 4 AM ET across the eastern half of the United States.
