Governor Gavin Newsom Friday was scheduled to be joined by Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi and other elected officials to announce California’s actions in response to redistricting efforts being made by Republican-led states.

Newsom said last week he will be working with state lawmakers to temporarily overrule the independent redistricting commission and withdraw district lines to Democrats and push out at least five of the nine Republican members of the U.S. House of Representatives in the state.

His announcement came after Texas Republicans released a new congressional map proposal to help the GOP pick up five additional seats in next year’s mid-term election.
