WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – The man accused in the shooting death of 49-year-old Ruben Parga-Quintanar made his first appearance in Sedgwick County District Court on Friday.

Ricardo Talavera, 41, is charged with involuntary manslaughter for allegedly recklessly causing Parga-Quintanar’s death, and with interference with law enforcement for allegedly concealing, altering, or destroying evidence.

The charges stem from an Aug. 1 incident in the 2400 block of North Jeanette, where officers found Parga-Quintanar with a gunshot wound to his upper body. Police said he had been shot in a nearby alley and collapsed after fleeing on a bicycle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

During Friday’s hearing, a judge set Talavera’s bond at $1 million. His next court appearance is set for 1:30 p.m. on Aug.
