LOUISVILLE, Ky. — One Kentucky woman has spent over 20 years quietly making a big impact, one colorful bookmark at a time.

Beverly Leifer, or “Bookmark Bev,” shares her love of reading with kids across the world by handcrafting bookmarks.

Leifer has created thousands of one-of-a-kind bookmarks for Kentucky elementary school students, but she has one stipulation:

“All I ask is that the children earn the bookmark by showing improvement in reading, and not just handing over something, because it doesn’t mean anything,” said Leifer.

Each bookmark is handcrafted and takes about four hours to make. Leifer combines her love of origami and botany and adds an inspirational quote to each one.
