OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Seven months after retiring from the Air Force, Michael Yamzon was diagnosed with Stage 4 Mesothelioma.

He was told he had 18 months to live.

“Mesothelioma: the only way you can get that is through exposure to asbestos,” says Yamzon.

Yamzon first commissioned in 2001, when he was 25 years old. He had two tours at the United States Strategic Command at Offutt Air Force Base.

The average age for mesothelioma diagnoses is 72 years old, according to the American Cancer Society . Michael is 47.

“Day to day for me is a lot of medical appointments. I completed chemotherapy back in November of last year and since then I’ve been on chemo maintenance,” says Yamzon.
