Starting in 2026, the Urban League of Essex County will be expanding house equity with the development of 28 newly constructed affordable homes in Newark.
The Urban League of Essex County (ULEC) built 20 homes in total. The most recent — 10 two-family homes — are on Fairmount Avenue and Camden Street since 2023. ULEC’s mission is to create a larger effort to help low-to-moderate income “families build wealth, but also build the economic stability of the community by having increased homeownership for residents,” said Vivian Fraser, president of ULEC.
According to Urban Wire , homeownership rate in Newark is 24%, which is a lower percentage compared to the homeownership in the rest of New Jersey and in the United States.
