PORTLAND, Maine — Sen. Susan Collins is working to secure funding to support a local Maine organization that provides peer recovery support group services to people recovering from substance use disorder.

The Maine senator is backing a congressionally directed spending bill that, if passed, will provide Portland Recovery Community Center with more than $2.5 million will soon be considered by the House of Representatives and Senate.

Directors and board members from PRCC said the funding will be used to build a new family and friends community center and expand the organization's recovery support group services.

Kerry Macdonald, president of the board of directors, said recovery starts with community, explaining that spaces like PRCC were her safe haven when she was beginning her own jour
