STRATFORD, Conn. — The Stratford Police Department reported Friday evening that the body of a missing six-year-old boy was found floating in the Housatonic River that afternoon by civilian boaters.
The child reportedly fell off the Birdseye Boat Ramp on Aug. 2. Despite heroic efforts, initial attempts to rescue the boy were unsuccessful.
His body was found in the river on Friday around 2 p.m., according to Stratford police. It was located about one-half mile south from where he fell into the water.
While the search had ended, nearby Stratford and Bridgeport police marine units arrived on-scene in the minutes that followed to pull the boy’s body from the water.
Stratford police say the body was taken to the Birdseye Boat Ramp aboard the Marine 1 Patrol Boat.
