LA County District Attorney Nathan Hochman has formally opposed the Menendez brothers’ petition for a new trial.

Erik and Lyle Menendez have petitioned for a new trial based on two pieces of new evidence they claim corroborate their long-term sexual abuse allegations against their father, Jose Menendez.

The big picture: The brothers have served approximately 35 years of life sentences for the 1989 shotgun murders of their parents at their Beverly Hills home. • Hochman’s office submitted a 132-page opposition document stating the petition “does not come close to meeting the factual or legal standard to warrant a new trial.” • Hochman emphasized that the overwhelming evidence of the brothers’ premeditated, deliberate, and brutal murders remains unchallenged by the supposed new evidence
