ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – An Albuquerque man is facing life behind bars if convicted for his role in a massive drug trafficking operation. Alex Anthony Martinez was convicted of conspiracy and possession with the intent to distribute fentanyl in federal court. The United States Department of Justice said he worked with a multi-state fentanyl trafficking network led by Heriberto Salazar Amaya.

Last year, agents searched a stash house in northeast Albuquerque where they found 150,000 fentanyl pills, $72,000 in cash, and multiple firearms.

Seven other people have already taken a plea deal in connection with this case. Amaya is scheduled for trial in October.
