AUSTIN, Texas — Following reports of dead fish being found in Mueller Lake Park on Thursday and Friday, Austin's Watershed Protection Department has an update on the likely cause.
After investigating, officials say the fish likely died due to "low dissolved oxygen (DO) levels in the water quality pond." They said this was not due to a pollutant in the water, and that DO levels can drop due to many factors, including high temperatures and direct sunlight.
It was determined a total of about 500 dead fish were found in the lake within the past 24 hours.
Officials say no additional dead fish were found in the lake. Austin's Watershed Protection Department will continue to monitor the situation.
