Updated Friday, Aug. 8, 7:01 p.m.: The Atlanta Police Department has confirmed that the active shooter who opened fire at Emory Atlanta at about 5 p.m. is dead. One law enforcement officer was injured while responding.

The department's statement read in full: "There is no ongoing threat to the Emory campus or the surrounding neighborhood. The incident involved a single shooter, who is now deceased. One law enforcement officer was injured in the course of the response.

Please avoid the area, as the scene remains active and law enforcement continues its investigation. We thank you for your cooperation and will provide updates as more information becomes available."
