WASHINGTON — Since President Donald Trump took over the Oval Office a little more than 200 days ago, many federal agencies have seen budgets slashed and workforces reduced. That is true especially of Health and Human Services, overseen by Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Just this week nearly $500 million in grants and contracts for mRNA vaccine development was canceled. Yet, there is one area of study that Kennedy wants to see more time and money put toward: psychedelics as therapeutics.

“This line of therapeutics has tremendous advantage if given in a clinical setting, and we are working very hard to make sure that that happens within 12 months,” Kennedy said at a House Energy and Commerce Committee hearing in June.
