President Donald Trump's just-fired IRS chief appears to be taking the news in stride.
Trump is firing former Rep. Billy Long (R-MO) from the IRS after just two months on the job. Four sources told The New York Times that, despite his loyalty and allegiance to Trump, Long was being canned and will get an ambassadorship instead.
The White House claimed Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent will do the job as well as serving in his current post.
Long sent emails to IRS employees allowing them to leave work early on Friday afternoon, the Times reported.
“Please enjoy a 70-minute early exit tomorrow. That way you’ll be rested for my 70th birthday on Monday!” Long said in the email to staff.
The ex-congressman took to his X account to thank Trump for his new role.
“It is a honor to serve my friend President Trump and I am excited to take on my new role as the ambassador to Iceland," wrote Long. "I am thrilled to answer his call to service and deeply committed to advancing his bold agenda. Exciting times ahead!”
Long followed up with a humorous joke downplaying his move.
"I saw where Former Superman actor Dean Cain says he's joining ICE so I got all fired up and thought I'd do the same. So I called @realDonaldTrump last night and told him I wanted to join ICE and I guess he thought I said Iceland? Oh well."
