FERGUSON — A man crashed a stolen car, fled on foot and attempted to steal another car and an 18-wheeler before being arrested on Tuesday, police said.

In court documents filed Wednesday, police said 34-year-old Dwayne Smith was driving a stolen BMW when he drove through a red light at the intersection of North Florissant and Airport roads.

Smith crashed into another vehicle, injuring the driver, police said. He got out, fled on foot and tried to get into another car, but the driver's door didn't open.

Police said Smith then ran to a nearby church and tried to climb into the driver's seat of a Freightliner truck. But the driver of the truck, they said, returned as Smith was trying to drive away and began physically fighting with him.
