July was the safest month in the subway in recorded history, according to the MTA and NYPD.
Data from the agencies show major felonies in July were down 8% compared to July 2024. Felony assaults were down 9.3% and there were no burglaries during the month.
“When you look at assaults year to date in the subway system, the whole universe of assaults, all assaults, they’re down a little over 2%,” MTA Chief Security Officer Michael Kemper said. “So I can’t answer for why people say certain things, but all assaults in its totality are down this year.”
