BARABOO, Wis. (WMTV) - By the fall of next year, the City of Baraboo hopes to build two new fire stations.
The project for a larger central station and a smaller satellite station has been years in the making, according to Assistant Fire and EMS Chief Mark Willer. Now, the City of Baraboo has secured a $24 million federal loan to move forward.
As Baraboo’s population has grown over the years, response time has increased, Willer said.
“It still can take a little bit longer than we’d like to, to get to certain scenes,” Willer said. “Having two buildings puts us more spread out in our district and can reduce response times to those newer additions of the city.”
He said the spread-out layout and tight spaces in the current building have created safety hazards for first responders.
