PHOENIX (AZFamily) — The Phoenix Fire Department confirmed a firefighter was injured, and a major road is closed as crews battle a large blaze on the city’s westside on Friday.
Around 1 p.m., firefighters were called to a business near 33rd Avenue and McDowell Road. Crews arrived and found heavy smoke and flames coming from a strip mall.
The blaze was quickly upgraded to a second alarm, with more additional units and fire crews requested to battle the flames.
“That’s why we balanced, it went on a defensive posture to protect any other exposure, so it is contained to the structure. So, we do not have any other concern about it spreading further than it is,” said Phoenix Fire Capt. DJ Lee.
