SUMTER, S.C. (WOLO)– Sumter PD says a local man is safe after a barricading incident at an apartment on Friday.

Officers also say the man is receiving care.

The police department says officers responded to Willow Run Apartments after a concerned family member called the police to request a wellness check on the 30-year-old.

Soon after officers arrived to the scene, the man barricaded himself inside the apartment.

Around 5:15 p.m. the man went out of the apartment and met with officers after negotiations with officers, and other community resource providers.

He was taken to a nearby medical facility for an evaluation.
