IOWA CITY — After the decommitment of Cash Herrera, Iowa football is still on the hunt for a quarterback in the 2026 high school recruiting class.

"We’ve got some names we feel good about," Hawkeyes football chief of staff/general manager Tyler Barnes said. "At this point, when we lost our quarterback commit in ‘26, there’s no reason to rush into taking another guy. We’ve got time on our side, so we can see what the first four to five weeks of their senior season looks like. Other guys can see what our offense looks like for four to five weeks, too."

Herrera, a product of La Jolla, California, verbally committed to Iowa in October of 2024. But in June, that partnership came to an end as Herrera reopened his recruitment. Shortly after, he committed to another Big Ten program — India
