East Nashville kicked off the annual Tomato Art Festival with an explosion Aug. 8.
The boom wasn't someone blowing up tomatoes to make a tomato-inspired Jackson Pollock painting, a Bloody Mary or pasta sauce.
It happened at Lake Sevier at Shelby Park, a little more than a mile away from the site of the annual Tomato Art Festival, which will feature a tomato costume contest, a Bloody Mary recipe contest, tomato 5K and a tomato redhead contest.
The blast had several residents stepping outside, or cocking their heads after feeling the rumble ― strong enough to shake some homes in the area ― a little after 2 p.m. on Aug. 8.
