Just after 5 p.m. on Friday, Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia reported an active shooter on its campus.
Later, The Associated Press reported that authorities said the suspected shooter near the campuses of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Emory was dead and one law enforcement officer had been injured after police responded to reports of the situation.
Emory University announced in a post on X that the shelter-in-place order on campus had been lifted, but for people to avoid the area.
Early on, the university posted alerts on its website and social media advising people to shelter in place and avoid the area near Emory Point, which is a mixed used development with stores, restaurants and apartments, according to The New York Times.
