This year’s Nisei Week Festival pays special tribute to Japanese American Vietnam veterans, who served honorably when their country called. Upon returning home from an unpopular war, instead of parades and a heroes’ welcome, they faced scorn, political ostracism and discrimination.

On the 50th anniversary of the end of America’s military involvement in Vietnam, Nisei Week is honoring those veterans with its Inspiration Award, to thank them for their service to community and country, and to offer a long-delayed welcome home.
